Mr. Ted Fletcherasked the Minister of Transport how many employees in railway workshops and ancillary depôts have become redundant over the last five years.
§ Mr. Tom FraserI am informed by the British Railways Board that the number of railway employees in the workshop grades engaged in the main works and at other maintenance and repair depôts throughout British Railways has fallen by about 24,000 in the five years up to the end of 1964. Without considerable research it is not possible to say how much of this total is attributable to redundancy.
