§ Mr. Carol Johnsonasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many persons concerned with the treatment of offenders and the prevention of crime or engaged in criminological research in this country have been sent abroad under bursarships granted by the Criminological Division of the Council of Europe; and to which countries they have gone.
§ Miss BaconSince the Council of Europe social welfare fellowships were introduced in 1963 one has been granted to a person from the United Kingdom in the field of criminological research; he visited France. Arrangements are also made through the Council of Europe for exchange visits for staff concerned with the treatment of offenders, and eleven officers of my Department have taken part in such visits since 1961. They visited Belgium, France, the Federal Republic of Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland.
