asked the President of the Board of Trade how many applications have been received by his Department for industrial expansion or development during the last 12 months in Blaydon; how many applications have been approved; and what is the amount of financial assistance granted under the Local Employment Act.

The table below sets out the tonnages of new shipping of 500 gross tons and over built abroad and registered in United Kingdom ports during each of the last 10 years.

Mr. Jay

In the 12 months to end-January, 1965, seven applications for industrial development certificates were approved; no applications were refused.

Over the same period financial assistance offered under the Local Employment Acts, including the cost of one Board of Trade factory, totalled £312,000.
