HC Deb 04 March 1965 vol 707 cc311-2W
Mr. John Page

asked the Postmaster-General what efforts he is making to improve the postal delivery service by recruiting more men and women for delivery work at the Pinner and other sorting offices which serve the constituency of Harrow, West; and what the recruiting and wastage figures have been over the last three years.

Mr. Joseph Slater

We are advertising intensively for local recruits and also trying to get staff from other areas; but the labour supply is, of course, difficult through most of Greater London. Over the past three calendar years205 postmen have been recruited for Harrow, with a wastage—from all causes including promotion and retirement—of 200; for Pinner, in the same period, we have recruited 56 postmen, and total wastage has been 60.
