§ Mr. Rankinasked the Minister of Aviation whether he will make a statement about the future management of the aerodromes in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland.
§ Mr. Roy JenkinsYes. Schemes for the more economic operation of the eight aerodromes run by my Department in the Highlands and Islands were submitted by International Aeradio Limited and by my Divisional Controller for Scotland. After a careful appraisal of the two propositions I have decided to implement the one put forward by my own officials.
In reaching this decision I have taken into account both the relative financial 252W advantages of the two schemes, and their implications for employment in the area.
The eight aerodromes concerned are run for the benefit of the remote communities they serve. The essence of the economies I hope to make is the more efficient use of men and of their time. I am confident that the new measures will not impair the operational efficiency of these aerodromes.
