asked the Minister of Technology if he will list the projects outside nuclear energy currently under consideration for research and development by the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority.

Mr. Cousins

In addition to the programme on desalination which I announced on 27th April, I have directed the Authority to undertake work on the development of high-speed liquid centrifuges for use in medical and biological research. A direction will shortly be issued covering scientific research into the payload for the large astronomical satellite project of the European Space Research Organisation.

Further projects are under discussion.
