HL Deb 26 July 1965 vol 268 c1154WA
EARL JELLICOE

asked Her Majesty's Government:

When they propose to place production orders for—

  1. (a) The P.1127 (Kestrel).
  2. (b) The HS.801 (Maritime Comet).

THE MINISTER OF DEFENCE FOR THE ROYAL AIR FORCE (LORD SHACKLETON)

The present programme of work is related to the date at which these aircraft are required to enter service. Production orders are not yet necessary. At this stage Hawker Siddeley Aviation have authority for work on tooling and for the purchase of certain long dated materials. The manufacturer and the Departments concerned are continuing with detailed studies in order to produce definitive estimates of the total cost of these aircraft and to allow satisfactory contracts for both development and production to be placed in time to meet military requirements.

House adjourned at a quarter before eleven o'clock.
