§ Mr. PentlandThe County Borough of Gateshead is served by two offices of the National Assistance Board which between them also cover a considerable area beyond it, including the Urban Districts of Felling and Washington. In the area served by these offices there were, at the end of March, 1965, 126 unemployed persons whose assistance allowances were restricted by reference to their usual earnings, that is just over 14 per cent. of all those receiving assistance on account of unemployment and just over 1 per cent. of all those receiving National Assistance allowances in the area. I cannot yet say when the review of social security schemes is likely to be completed.
