HL Deb 07 July 1965 vol 267 cc1431-2WA
LORD FERRIER

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the Regulations to which the Joint Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Transport, referred in his answer on 15th June permit the use on new vehicles of direction indicators of the semaphore type after 31st August next.

LORD LINDGREN

I welcome the opportunity of amplifying that reply. The Answer is, "No": but where a vehicle registered before that date is fitted with semaphore-type indicators they will continue to be lawful. Any direction indicators fitted to vehicles newly registered after that date will have to be in the form of flashing amber lights in accordance with the Regulations which come into effect on 1st September. When we have had sufficient experience of the working of the new Regulations we shall consider making the fitting of direction indicators compulsory.

House adjourned at a quarter before nine-o'clock.
