HC Deb 20 January 1965 vol 705 cc80-1W
86. Mr. John Hall

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what representations have been made to him by the Rural District Councils Association requesting stricter control over the use of pest killing chemicals; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Peart

None. The Rural District Councils Association's recently published memorandum of evidence was in response to a questionnaire sent to it in August, 1964, by the Advisory Committee on Pesticides and Other Toxic Chemicals. As announced by my predecessor on 24th March last year, this Committee is reviewing the whole of the present arrangements for the safe use of pesticides in agriculture and food storage and we must await its report.

The primary responsibility for the Committee now belongs to my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Education and Science.
