§ Mr. Buxtonasked the Minister of Transport if he is aware that the present routeing of heavy through traffic along residential streets of the Borough of Leyton causes inconvenience and hardship to residents, and that the need for a new route is urgent; and when work is programmed to start on the Eastern Avenue extension through the Borough of Leyton, the route for which was fixed by his Department in 1962.
§ Mr. Tom FraserThere is a real need for a new route to relieve congestion in Leyton. But it has not yet been possible to find space in the programme for the Eastern Avenue extension. However, I hope that in the meantime two schemes due for completion this year—a new roundabout at the Green Man junction and a new link road between Whipps Cross Road and Popplewell Road—will bring considerable relief to local congestion in the borough.
