§ Sir J. Edenasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government if he will make a statement about the basis on which compensation will be paid to householders whose homes will be affected by the construction of a six-lane radial relief road into Bournemouth; and whether, in view of the large numbers likely to be displaced, he will discuss with the council their proposals for assisting the people concerned to find alternative accommodation at prices comparable to the amount of compensation paid to them.
§ Mr. MacCollThe basis of compensation as laid down in Section 5 of the Land Compensation Act, 1961, is the market value of the interest acquired, without regard to the effect on that value of the proposed road. The rehousing of persons displaced would be the responsibility of the Bournemouth Council, who have to submit any scheme for my right hon. Friend's approval. Discussion at this stage would be premature.
