asked Her Majesty's Government:

What is the amount presently outstanding in the form of direct loans and advances direct from British Treasury sources to Rhodesia.

I assume that the first part of the Question refers to Southern Rhodesian sterling stocks, for which Her Majesty's Government has no responsibility. The present amount outstanding of these 12 Rhodesian sterling stocks, listed by the Stock Exchange in their publishedOfficial List, is £67 million.

Moneys advanced from British Treasury sources to Southern Rhodesia and not yet repaid comprise:

Exchequer loans to Southern Rhodesian Government for African education 355,000
Exchequer loans to Southern Rhodesian Government for general development 3,250,000
Loan under Section III of Export Credits Guarantee Act, 1949, taken over by Southern Rhodesian Government from Central African Federal Government 1,717,336
Commonwealth Development Corporation Loan to Southern Rhodesian Government 1,000,000
In addition, the Southern Rhodesian Government is guarantor of half of the outstanding loan of £14,979,687 advanced by the Commonwealth Development Cor poration to the Central African Power Corporation.
