§ Mr. Gregory
asked the Minister of Health whether he is aware of the diversity of methods employed by hospital authorities in their current system of purchasing goods and services under contract for use in hospitals under their control; whether he is satisfied that the present system provides for the purchase of goods and materials of the necessary standard and quality at the most economic prices; and if he will make a statement.221W
§ Mr. K. Robinson
I am aware of the diversity of purchasing practice, although standing orders adopted generally by hospital authorities provide a common basis for contract procedure, including purchase by competitive tender whenever possible.
A Departmental committee is now reviewing the present organisation for the purchase and distribution of goods and equipment for the hospital service.
