HC Deb 04 August 1965 vol 717 cc367-8W
Mr. Francis Noel-Baker

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government whether he is aware that, without consent under the Town and Country Planning (Control of Advertisements) Regulations, large numbers of brightly coloured roadside advertisements are being displayed in rural areas throughout the country in pursuance of a campaign launched by the National Farmers' Union; and what action he proposes to take to secure their early removal in the interests of amenity and public safety.

Mr. MacColl

Yes, but local planning authorities have power to act against such contraventions and, while my right hon. Friend also has default powers, he sees no reason to intervene at this stage.

I understand the display is a temporary measure.
