HC Deb 04 August 1965 vol 717 cc349-50W
Mr. Tilney

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will arrange for 999 telephone calls to be recorded on tape and the records kept for a period of six months.

Mr. George Thomas

My Department is concerned only with emergency telephone calls to the police and the fire service. It is for individual police and fire authorities to decide whether arrangements for tape recording these calls are appropriate in the circumstances of their areas. Some authorities already use the system, and others are considering doing so.
