HC Deb 02 August 1965 vol 717 c257W
89. Sir F. Bennett

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what steps he is taking to allay the apprehensions of Her Majesty's subjects in British Guiana about the renewed claim by Venezuela to 45,000 square miles of this British dependency.

90. Sir J. Rodgers

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what measures he is taking to secure the frontier between British Guiana and Venezuela, in view of the renewed claim by the latter to 45,000 square miles of the former's territory.

Mr. Greenwood

Her Majesty's Government's attitude towards the Venezuelan claim is well known in British Guiana and I am confident that the Venezuelan Government will not take any action which would pose a threat to British Guiana's frontiers. In any event it would defeat the object of any security measures we may be taking if I were to disclose them in advance.
