Mr. Batsford

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he is aware that proprietary schools are denied the benefit of duty-free importation of scientific apparatus on the ground that such articles would be used for a substantially commercial purpose; and whether he will take steps to see that such discrimination should not be applied against private schools which have been approved by his Department.

Yes. The reason was explained by my hon. Friend, Minister of State at the Board or Trade in his reply to the hon. Member on 20th July.
