HC Deb 02 August 1965 vol 717 c221W
Sir R. Glyn

asked the Minister of Public Building and Works what steps he has taken to safeguard the future of the ancient earthworks on Gussage Down in Dorset.

Mr. C. Pannell

I have made a Preservation Order under Section 11 of the Historic Buildings and Ancient Monuments Act, 1953, placing part of these earthworks under my continuing protection. The Order came into force on 27th July, 1965 and ensures that no work can be undertaken without my consent. It supersedes an Interim Preservation Notice which was made on 20th April 1964, when part of this important monument was threatened with destruction.
