All children of an age-group, in primary schools, are considered for the allocation of places in selective schools. (A number of children from independent schools are put forward for consideration but they are excluded from the figures in the table.) On the other hand, percentages in the columns "grammar schools" include children offered places in direct grant grammar schools and in independent schools. The four technical schools concerned offer, like the grammar schools, a full range of courses at "Ordinary" and "Advanced" level for the G.C.E. examination.
