§ Mr. George Y. Mackieasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, in view of the present shortage of nitrogen in the south of England, he will lift the import charge on nitrogenous fertilisers.
§ Mr. MacDermotNo. I have no reason to suppose that farmers are unable to get supplies of nitrogenous fertilisers; and we have thought it better to make a general reduction in the charge rather than remove it altogether in particular cases.
