§ Mr. Ogdenasked the Minister of Transport if he is aware that many passengers on the late Friday afternoon long-distance trains have to stand in the train corridors because all the second-class compartment seats are occupied, yet on the same trains there are many vacant seats in the first-class coaches; and if he will issue a general direction, in the public interest, to British Rail to vary the proportion of first- and second-class coaches so that all passengers have reasonable facilities on these long-distance journeys.
§ Mr. Tom FraserThe proportion in which accommodation in the different classes is provided on trains is a matter for the British Railways Board. A general direction from me would not be appropriate.
