§ 51. Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Minister of Transport whether he will make a statement on the discussions which his Department has had with the representatives of the bus companies to relieve them of the additional duty on petrol and diesel; and how the system of relief will operate.
§ Mr. Tom FraserThe Bus Operators' Associations and the London Transport Board were told that the Government were willing, if suitable arrangements could be worked out with the industry's co-operation, to grant relief to the bus industry corresponding to the extra cost of the 6d. increase in fuel tax on stage carriage services. The method of relief is being discussed by a joint working party of the Department and the operators. I cannot yet say what it will be.
