§ 79. Captain Orrasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what estimate he has made of the effect of the rise in petrol tax upon trade, industry and employment in Northern Ireland.
§ Mr. MacDermotI am, of course, fully aware of the special economic position of Northern Ireland, but my right hon. Friend's reason for proposing an increase in the oil duty was to balance demand and resources in the United Kingdom as a whole. As the hon. and gallant Member is aware, this duty has to apply at the same rate in Great Britain and in Northern Ireland.
