§ 40. Mr. Sydney Silvermanasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department why he has not granted a certificate of naturalisation to Mr. J. Abramowitz of Hendon, a stateless person married to a British subject, who was expelled from Cairo as a result of the Suez campaign in November, 1956, and who has resided with his wife in the United Kingdom ever since.
§ Mr. George ThomasSection 26 of the British Nationality Act, 1948, provides that the Secretary of State shall not be required to give reasons for his decisions in naturalisation cases. It has long been the practice of successive Home Secretaries not to give their reasons, and my right hon. Friend is not convinced that there are sufficient grounds for departing from that practice.
