§ 49. Dame Edith Pittasked the Minister of Health what proportion of immigrants is medically examined on entry; what form this examination takes; and what arrangements are made to place the information so obtained in the hands of the medical officers of health in the areas to which they are proceeding.
§ Mr. RobinsonMedical examination is limited to those immigrants referred by the immigration officer to the medical inspector at the port of entry for advice whether there are medical grounds for refusing admission. Normally those examined are coming to this country to work or to settle. The scope of the examination depends on the discretion of the medical inspector, but its results in the case of immigrants admitted would not justify sending a report to medical officers of health as a matter of routine.
