asked Her Majesty's Government:

What action they are taking on the recommendation of the Working Party on Legal Aid in Criminal Proceedings, that there should be a general review of the arrangements for providing legal aid in criminal proceedings.


My right honourable friend has appointed a Departmental Committee with the following terms of referenceTo examine and report on the arrangements and machinery for providing legal aid in criminal proceedings".

Mr. Justice Widgery has been good enough to accept the Chairmanship of the Committee and my right honourable friend is grateful to the following for agreeing to serve as members:
