§ Mr. Kenyonasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, in view of the probable shortage of beef cattle in the near future, what steps he is taking to increase production in this country.
§ Mr. SoamesAs the hon. Member is aware, there has been an improvement, following the last Annual Review, in the guaranteed price of milk, and I am advised that there has been a check to the decline in the dairy herd. This, together with the increase of 3s. per live cwt. in the guaranteed price of fat cattle and the 10s. per head increase in the subsidy on steer calves, should give sufficient encouragement to home producers of beef from both the dairy herd and the beef breeding herd.
