I received the report of the Transport Users Consultative Committee on these proposed closures this week My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State has still to receive the views of the Highland Transport Board. These are expected shortly.

We shall require some time to study these reports and to make an overall assessment, and it would be quite impossible to reach a considered decision by the end of this month.

Mr. Bingham

asked the Minister of Transport what representations he has received from the Steering Committee on Merseyside Traffic and Transport about the proposed withdrawal of the passenger train service between Liverpool Central and Gateacre; and if he will make a statement.
