§ Mr. GalbraithThirty-eight. The clearance between the edge of the carriageway and the columns varies between 18 in. and 2 ft., which was normal practice when the system was installed. The main cause of the trouble is not the columns but the fact that the volume of traffic on this length of road is excessive in relation to its capacity. Most of it is to be by-passed, and the rest improved, in the near future.
