§ 31. Mr. K. Robinson
asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will set up a committee to inquire into the extent of drug addiction in Great Britain, especially among young persons, and to reassess the validity of official statistics in the light of recent experience of the courts.
§ Mr. Brooke
The Interdepartmental Committee on Drug Addiction, under the chairmanship of Lord Brain, which reported in November, 1960, expressed the opinion that there was no cause to fear that any real increase in addiction244W was occurring at that time. There is, however, evidence of some recent increase in addiction, and I am consulting my right hon. Friends the Secretary of State for Scotland and the Minister of Health about this development.
