§ 38. Mr. W. Hamiltonasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs how many local authorities encourage private house ownership by granting mortgages of 100 per cent. of valuation; and what steps he intends to take to encourage other local authorities to initiate similar policies.
§ Sir K. JosephInformation about the number and aggregate amount of loans for house purchase made by local authorities in England and Wales is given in the quarterly Housing Return. I regret that I cannot say how many authorities are covered by the figures for loans of 100 per cent. of valuation. The lending powers are permissive and it is a matter for each local authority to decide in the light of local conditions whether 100 per cent. advances are appropriate.
