§ 41. Mr. Short
asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs what action he proposes to take as a result of the request of Newcastle Corporation for increased grants to householders to meet the cost of conversion of domestic appliances, contained in the addendum to the report on the Newcastle-upon-Tyne Smoke Control Order No. 9.
§ Mr. Corfield
The grant, which is paid partly by the Exchequer and partly by the local authority, is normally 70 per cent. of the approved cost but can be increased to 100 per cent. in special cases.190W These arrangements seem adequate, and my right hon. Friend has no proposals for increasing the normal rate of grant. But the Housing Bill contains proposals for widening the range of householders eligible.
