§ 69. Mr. A. Lewisasked the Minister of Transport whether he is aware of the danger caused to drivers of motor vehicles by pedal cyclists on derestricted roads; and whether he will introduce regulations to oblige cyclists to use cycle tracks where these are provided.
§ Mr. MarplesThe Highways Code says that if there is an adequate cycle track cyclists should use it. I have no power to make regulations requiring cyclists to use cycle tracks generally. But I am able to make orders for specific roads for which I am the authority, and I am also prepared to consider confirming orders submitted to me by other highway authorities.
