§ Mr. Mappasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs if, in his review of financial assistance for local authorities with heavy slum clearance programmes, he will include an appropriate element to meet the interest on loan charges falling in the interim period between loan and commencement of rent income.
§ Sir K. JosephThe review of housing subsidies covers all housing authorities and involves a general consideration of housing finance and accounts. These accounts reflect the amount of interest charged to them for schemes not producing income, and that will certainly therefore come into the picture. In the meantime, local authorities can help themselves by using methods of construction that will reduce building times, and I am giving them every encouragement to do so.
