§ 56. Mr. Gourlayasked the Secretary of State for Scotland when he received the letter from Kirkcaldy Meat Traders' Association, sent to him by the hon. Member for Kirkcaldy Burghs, regarding the 146 cattle sold at Thornton Auction Mart on 25th May, of which approximately 20 to 25 per cent. were exported; and, in view of this high proportion, what proposals he has to protect meat prices to Scottish consumers.
§ Mr. NobleI received the hon. Member's letter on 1st June. I have written telling him that these figures are not typical of what is happening in Scotland and that I see no reason to depart from the statement made on 26th May by my right hon. Friend the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food.
