HC Deb 04 June 1964 vol 695 cc205-6W
Dr. A. Thompson

asked the Minister of Health what plans he has for consultation and co-operation with Press, radio and television for alerting the public in the event of any serious epidemic, and for providing detailed advice as to the necessary precautions to take.

Mr. Barber

Warnings and advice are normally arranged locally by the medical officers of health. When however a serious outbreak occurs my Department is in constant touch with the medical officers of health concerned, and all appropriate channels of publicity would be used to make a national announcement if this were required. The Press and broadcasting authorities are always most co-operative and helpful in this.
