§ LORD FORBESasked Her Majesty's Government:
Whether, as a result of the Minister of Aviation's talks about Scotland's air services during his recent visit to Scotland, they will now make an early statement concerning improvements they propose for Scotland's air services, including improved facilities for private flying, in view of the urgent necessity to improve and add to air services from and within Scotland so as to break the distance barrier with England and the Continent, as a means of encouraging not only the expansion of business but also the setting up of more industry in Scotland.
§ LORD CHESHAM:Her Majesty's Government are fully seized of the importance of air services as a means of encouraging the economic growth of Scotland. Scotland shares in the encouragement they give to private flying throughout the United Kingdom. The Secretary of State and the Minister of Aviation have recently discussed what has become known as the Master Plan for Air Services in Scotland with the Scottish Council and have agreed with them certain further investigations necessary before final decisions can be taken. It would, therefore, be premature to make a statement at present. In the meantime the Government have noted with satisfaction the introduction by British European Airways of a direct air service between Aberdeen and London.
