§ Sir A. Hurdasked the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations and the Colonies whether measures have now been agreed with the Kenya Government to deal with the problem of the remaining European mixed farms which are outside the present land settlement programme; and if he will state the numbers of Europeans concerned and the financial backing provided for purchasing their farms if this proves necessary.
§ Mr. Wallasked the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations and the Colonies (1) what additional financial assistance is now to be given to assist the resettlement of British farmers now in Kenya who are considered to be compassionate cases;
(2) if he will now make a statement on additional financial assistance to Kenya to finance phase 2 of the Million Acre Resettlement Scheme;
(3) what financial assistance Great Britain is now to give towards the Resettlement Scheme in the Ol Kalou salient in Kenya.
§ Mr. SandysThe British Government have decided to provide funds to enable the land in the Ol Kalou salient to be purchased. The precise arrangements are being discussed and will be announced shortly.
With regard to the remaining European mixed farms I have not yet completed my consideration of the Kenya Government's proposals.
