§ 46. Mr. Denis Howellasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he is aware that medical schools discriminate against women students in their selection and require information from applicants about their connection with the medical school, university or teaching hospital; and if he will seek power to end these practices.
§ Sir E. BoyleThe selection of students must remain the responsibility of the university institution concerned. But I agree that it is important for universities to bear in mind the need for their selection procedures to be above criticism, and the extended system of the Universities Central Council on Admissions has been of great significance in achieving this.
