§ Sir J. Edenasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what proportion of the beef consumed in Great Britain is home-produced; and how much of this has been raised by intensive methods.
§ Mr. Soames71 per cent. of United Kingdom beef supplies in 1963 were home-produced. I regret that I have no precise information on the quantity raised by intensive methods, but a new question to be included in the September census returns will ask for the number of male cattle being reared intensively for slaughter at 8 to 14 months.
