HC Deb 22 July 1964 vol 699 c98W
75. Mr. Grimond

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what official research is being made into dryrot in fishing boats; and what remedies have been discovered.

Mr. Hogg

A number of instances of rot in Scottish fishing boats have been reported recently but it is expected that the problem can be solved by modifications in boat design, making use of existing knowledge of wood preservatives and their application.

The Forest Products Research Laboratory and the Torry Research Station of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research are in close contact on this problem with the White Fish Authority, the Herring Industry Board, and the Fishing Boat Builders Association.
