§ 49. Sir J. Lucasasked the Minister of Public Building and Works if he is aware that the Church Council of the Royal Garrison Church at Portsmouth, together with the commanding officers of various Service units, have been trying to get funds to restore part of the nave of the bombed church which is still left with no roof since the war; and whether he will now make an allocation to enable some work to be done on this building.
§ Mr. RipponWhile my right hon. Friend the Minister of Defence for the Army and I would of course consider any specific proposal that might be made, it would be difficult to justify Government expenditure on this at the present time since I understand that the congregation using this church do not need additional accommodation.
