HC Deb 17 July 1964 vol 698 c294W
Commander Donaldson

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether Her Majesty's Government has now decided on the location of the new Scottish university.

Mr. Hogg

Yes. The University Grants Committee, after visiting the proposed locations, has advised the Government that the new Scottish university should be located at Stirling. I have considered this advice in conjunction with my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland and it has been decided to accept the U.G.C.'s recommendation.

Now that this question of location has been settled, both the Government and the U.G.C. hope that the large measure of material and other support for a new university in Scotland which has manifested itself will be readily forthcoming for its development at Stirling.
