HC Deb 15 July 1964 vol 698 cc231-2W
61. Miss Vickers

asked the Secretary of State for Defence to what extent there is a sufficient programme of work planned for Her Majesty's Dockyard, Devonport, to ensure employment for all those now employed on work for the yard for at least three years; and to what extent there is a shortage of men in any of the departments.

Mr. Hay

There will be sufficient work at Her Majesty's Dockyard, Devonport, to ensure employment during the remainder of the present financial year for all those now in work there.

The programmes of dockyard work for the next three years have not yet been settled and are always liable to change; but, so far as I can judge at present, there is unlikely to be further redundancy at Devonport.

There are at the moment shortages of both engineering and electrical fitters, as well as of ordinary labourers.
