asked the Secretary of State for Defence to what extent the recent discussions held by his Department with Spain for a contract to build Leander class frigates was on condition that they were to be built in British shipyards, and to what extent it was for the 98W purchase of plans and drawings for the building of these frigates in Spain; and whether he will make a statement on the Government's policy regarding the supplying of strategic information and arms to foreign countries.

As regards the first part of the Question, I would refer the hon. Member to the answer I gave in the House today. As regards the supply of strategic information and arms to foreign countries, I have nothing to add to the statement made by my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs on 15th June in reply to Questions by the hon. Members for New-castle-under-Lyme (Mr. Swingler) and Ebbw Vale (Mr. M. Foot).
