Dr. Bennettasked the Secretary of State for War if he is aware that the continued erosion of his Department's land at Browndown Point, at a rate of some 8 to 10 feet per annum is causing undermining by tidal scour of the new coast defences at Lee-on-Solent and will shortly endanger the coast road; and if he will take urgent steps to arrest this process.

§ Mr. RamsdenYes; although, under the Coast Protection Act, 1949, responsibility for preventing this erosion does not rest solely or even primarily on my Department, the War Department Land Agent was instructed to open discussions with the coast protection authority in January and he has since done so. I think that the best course is that these discussions should be pursued urgently.
