§ 102. Mr. Millanasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he is aware that rickets have reappeared in children in Glasgow because of inadequate diet; and whether he will now abolish the charges on welfare foods for children.
§ Mr. NobleI am aware that in 1962 there was an increased incidence of rickets in Glasgow; 1963 figures are not yet available. Investingation of the 1962 cases showed that most of the families concerned were eligible for free welfare foods. I do not propose to abolish the charges on welfare foods, the uptake of which is rising.
