HC Deb 04 February 1964 vol 688 c128W
43. Mr. A. Lewis

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will give the latest annual revenue received by the Treasury from the 10 per cent. totalisator pool betting duty on greyhound racing; and what is the estimated return that would be received by the Treasury if this tax were abolished and replaced by a 4 per cent. tax on all forms of betting, gambling and gaming.

Mr. Maudling

Net receipts of pool betting duty from totalisators on dog racecourses during 1963 were £5,492,353.

At this time of the year I think I should use discretion in estimating the possible yield from hypothetical taxes.
