§ 81. Lady Megan Lloyd Georgeasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he will give consideration to the need for subjecting private forestry developers to the same measure of control as the Forestry Commission in the matter of land purchase, so as to secure protection for tenant farmers whose livelihood might be threatened.
§ Mr. HoyArrangements already exist to safeguard security of tenure for tenant farmers whose land is wanted for private afforestation since the consent of the Agricultural Land Tribunal is required if the tenant serves a counter-notice. To require private owners to obtain consent before using agricultural land for forestry would require legislation, and I have no evidence that this would be justified.
